Strelitzia (Strelitziaceae)

Nicolai, giant bird of paradise
Native to South Africa, it is an evergreen tree that closely resembles a banana tree. It grows in large clumps that develop into pseudo-trunks at the tops of which are oblong, leathery, emerald-green leaves. In the warm season, it produces characteristic white, banana-shaped flowers.

Reginae, bird of paradise
Similar to S. Nicolai, but smaller. Smaller leaves and trunks that never exceed a meter in height; abundant orange flowers with blue petals. Prefers partial shade.
