Native to the entire Mediterranean, where it grows even in very narrow places such as cliffs, rocky coasts and semi-sandy soils. It is a plant that in the first years of life appears dressed from the bottom, regular and elongated; as an adult it tends to lose the lower branches giving rise to a
tree with a very broad pyramidal crown and a brown, twisted and irregular trunk.

Pinea, Roman pine, stone pine
A widespread plant in the Mediterranean, especially in Italy, where it was imported many years ago from Asia Minor. It has a straight, cylindrical trunk with a compact, rounded, and very thick crown composed of small, dense needles. A very hardy plant that adapts to any type of soil. Its fruits are “pine cones,” which contain pine nuts, a delicious edible fruit.
