Native to southeastern Europe, it grows wild in Italy. It has sparse foliage and slender, elongated branches; its scaly, spiraled, pointed, blue-green leaves are rounded. It produces numerous cylindrical, pinkish-white flowers; the fruits are downy purple capsules containing seeds.
