Punica (Punicaceae)

Granatum, pomegranate fruit
Native to the Middle East, it is a very ancient deciduous tree or shrub; it thrives throughout the Mediterranean. It has long, narrow, light green leaves, thorny branches, and flowers that appear from spring to late summer and are red-orange bell-shaped;
They bear spherical fruits, the size of apples, with smooth, red-orange skin containing clusters of edible seeds. The gray-brown trunk becomes gnarled and twisted over time, a very distinctive feature.

Deciduous shrub without thorns that has the same characteristics as the fruit-bearing P., but with later flowers that are much larger and more numerous.

Granatum Nana Gracilissima, dwarf pomegranate
A dwarf form of pomegranate, it has much smaller leaves than other varieties. When they appear, they’re reddish, later turning green. From late summer and throughout autumn, the plant is completely covered in fruit and flowers, becoming beautiful.
Used for small borders or in tubs.
